Summer is the Season
It beckons us to embrace the warmth, head to the beach, and let our hair down. For those who seek to capture the essence of summer in a photograph, it's a journey that transcends the daily grind and delves into the beauty of slowing down.
A few influences sparked this project, one being the product description for the Mesh Baggu — "Perfect for trips to the beach, water and sand slip right through." The mission was to create images that encapsulate the joy and freedom of summer vacation and feature items that symbolize a facet of an idyllic summer day.
From Orlebar Brown, a classic white resin patio chair and a beach blanket styled with some mangos sitting in the sand, combined with the unforgettable bag scene from American Beauty (1999) were some of the inspirations that propelled the creative. These influences spoke to a longing for simplicity, a sense of nostalgia, and the ability to find profound beauty in familiar, everyday objects.
Embracing a love of found locations and industrial aesthetics, exploration became a vital exercise to find the perfect backdrop. And adding a few lemons to mirror the colour of the mesh Baggu enhanced the bright and summery theme. Minimal equipment and natural lighting were necessary for the work to be done mindfully in public spaces.
"That's the day I realized there was this entire life behind things."
